Baby the Stars Shine Bright (BTSSB) Kumya's Christmas Market JSK II Review & Photos

Hello everyone!

I’ve been feeling more motivated to slowly work on creating content again hence the more regular video uploads on my Youtube channel, as well as the blog posts. I’m not sure how frequent the updates will be so no promises there!

Anyways, today’s post is about Kumya’s Christmas Market by Baby the Stars Shine Bright.

You can check out my YouTube video trying on the JSK here:

This print became available for reservation on Baby’s San Francisco shop blog on November 13, 2020. It’s been some time since the print was released and I actually ordered the skirt version from Baby’s Japanese website in December when the print became available to the public. However, since Japan Post has stopped shipping to Canada for several months now and Baby will not use an alternative carrier, my skirt has been stuck in Japan and I foresee it being stuck there probably until next year :’(

I had opted for the skirt version as both JSK cuts for this print only came with partial back shirring. The max bust measurement for both JSK cuts were 98cm and the waist was at a maximum of 90cm. If you have not watched any of my previous YouTube videos my bust measurement is at about 112cm to 113cm and my waist is at about 98cm. Unfortunately, if I wanted to purchase the JSK I would need to have the dress altered to fit me.

Luckily I was able to find this JSK listed on Lacemarket with alterations already done! The alterations the previous owner did increased the bust measurements to 108cm and the waist size to 106cm. Now the new bust size still seemed like it would be too small for my measurements, but I took a risk anyway in hopes it would fit me.

Here are some fit issues that I noticed after the alterations:

  • The added panels were attached to the front part of the bodice, so the lace detailing along the front is no longer supporting the front shirring panel

  • The gold ribbon on the front part of the bodice is now too short to lace up across the front

  • The front part looks a lot wider and not quite as flattering (my bust looks like it wants to pop out of the front lol)

  • The shoulder straps are wider apart due to the added width from the alteration

  • The skirt shape of the dress does not taper as nicely now

Overall the altered JSK still fits me relatively well, however it’s not quite a perfect fit which I expected would be the case, especially since it was altered to fit someone else’s measurements and preferences not mine. The bust area does still have some stretch left, although I don’t find the shape of the front bodice all that flattering with the added panels. The waist area also still has a bit of stretch but I’m not sure it would really go up to 106cm as comfortably as i found there wasn’t as much breathing room left.

I’m still over the moon and really excited to finally have this print in my wardrobe. It’s absolutely adorable, and the colours are really well balanced. Other than wanting Baby to be more size inclusive as a brand overall, I do wish Baby would also start adding side pockets to their garments. As someone who likes to keep my phone on me at all times, it really makes a difference to have pockets that will fit my phone but that seems to be a luxury too.

Anyways that’s it from me! I have included some photos of the dress and some closer detailed shots of the print that is probably a lot easier to see than from a video. The front part of the dress also looks much more flattering on my dress form than on me so I may have to wear a binder for it to look less gapey when I wear it.

Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or if you have any thoughts about this release from Baby.
